Melissa McCarthy is really proving herself to be quite the leading lady. The Bridesmaids star, 44, had the top movie this week with Spy opening to a $30million weekend, devouring its competition and coming just under her previous hit comedy The Heat (co-starring Sandra Bullock) that scored $39million and the initial tracking that predicted a take in the mid-30 range.

The Rock’s San Andreas finished in the second spot with $26.4million, bringing its North American total gross to $99 million.

Entourage, based on the HBO show, opened to a bad weekend, scoring $17.8million against a $35million budget and predictions (and hopes) of at least $20million.

1. Spy, $30million

2. San Andreas, $26.4million

3. Insidious: Chapter 3, $23million

4. Entourage, $10.4million

5. Mad Max: Fury Road, $7.9million

6. Pitch Perfect 2, $7.7million

7. Tomorrowland, $7million

8. Avengers: Age Of Ulton, $6.2million

9. Aloha, $3.3million

10. Poltergeist, $2.8million

  1. What irony…

In the Entourage episode where AquaMan hit the screens, Ari noted that even one dollar shy of expectations would be a disaster… Roughly ten percent below the predictions, and this movie is deemed a ‘flop’.
