It’s been long rumoured, but HBO Programming Chief Michael Lombardo has confirmed that flagship show Game of Thrones will be ‘at least eight seasons’ and has hinted that a prequel series or miniseries may even follow the hit fantasy show.
Showrunners and creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have always maintained that seven seasons was the desired outcome, but Lombardo has announced he’s changed their minds. “I’m always hoping they’re going to change their minds, but I think that’s what we’re looking at right now,” Lombardo told the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills about the extension.
Game of Thrones will return for its sixth season in April 2016.
