Say what you want about Donald Trump, but the Donald knows how to pull in the viewership. The first Republican Presidential Debate on Fox, featuring Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, Rand Paul and the Donald, absolutely destroyed in the ratings, scoring over 24 million in viewers with 7.9 of them being in the crucial 25-54 demographic. It’s the highest political debate ratings in modern history and Trump is being largely credited with igniting the interest in the race.
Hosted by Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace, the Donald clashed repeatedly with other candidates (and Megyn Kelly) and refused to pledge his loyalty to the Republican Party if he loses the nomination, saying that he’ll consider an independent party run.
August 6th on Fox also featured a secondary debate with lower polling candidates such as Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina and Rick Perry. Fiorina is believed to have won that debate and is believed to have received a bump in the polls, which could see her feature in the first debate in the future.
The next debate will be on the 16th of September, hosted by CNN.
