It was acclaimed writer Kurt Sutter’s first televison project after the hugely successful Sons of Anarchy, but The Bastard Executioner failed to find the audience of the Hells Angels show and has been axed after just one disappointing season.
The Bastard Executioner was set in the 14th century and boasted a cast featuring Katey Sagal, Ed Sheeran and Stephen Moyer, but it appeared trouble was brewing after the FX show received dismal reviews and lost half its audience between episode 1 and episode 2.
FX and Sutter are claiming the decision to cancel the show was a mutual agreement, with Sutter saying “I don’t want to write something nobody’s watching” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
