TGL Round-Up: Simpsons Creator Creates New Netflix Show, Anne Hathaway in Talks for Barbie, James Bond Release Date Given
The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and Netflix have announced a new “adult animated comedy fantasy series” called Disenchantment.
Viewers will journey to the “crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.”
The show will star Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson as the princess, Nat Faxon as Elfo, and Eric Andre as Luci. Groening has also recruited former Futurama stars, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille and David Herman. Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery also feature.
Anne Hathaway is in talks to play Barbie after Amy Schumer dropped out of the titular role, the Hollywood Reporter report.
The Dark Knight Rises actress reportedly agreed to negotiations as long as she got to handpick the director, who is Alethea Jones, an Australian up-and-comer whose feature debut, Fun Mom Dinner, comes out on August 4.
Negotiations are contingent on getting the film’s June 29, 2018 release date to work with Hathaway’s schedule.
The 25th Bond film will be released in November 2019, it has been announced this week.
Daniel Craig is expected to return as the world famous spy and Bond 25, as it’s currently known, will be written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who worked on the last six films.
