TGL Round-Up: Game of Thrones Pirated A Billion Times, George Clooney Movie Earns Mixed Reviews, Lady Gaga Taking a Break
Game of Thrones broke ratings records for HBO in its latest season, but it paled in comparison to the amount of people watching the show illegally.
With its seventh season plagued by hackers, the popular fantasy show was pirated more than 1 billion times, according to anti-piracy firm Muso.
“Game of Thrones has become one of the biggest global entertainment phenomena of today and activity across piracy networks has been totally unprecedented,” said MUSO CEO Andy Chatterley in a statement. “In addition to the scale of piracy when it comes to popular shows, these numbers demonstrate that unlicensed streaming can be a far more significant type of piracy than torrent downloads.”
Two episodes of Game of Thrones were leaked online before airing, which may contribute to the high numbers of piracy.
George Clooney’s latest directional effort, Suburbicon, has earned mixed reviews.
Suburbicon is described as being about a deceptively peaceful community hides a violent underbelly and stars Julianne Moore, Matt Damon and Oscar Isaac.
It currently holds a rotten 59% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Lady Gaga will be “taking a rest” for a little while, the pop star announced at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday.
“I’m going to take a rest. I don’t know how long,” Gaga said at a press conference for her upcoming Netflix doc “Gaga: Five Foot Two” when asked what the next steps in her career might look like.
Gaga has been focused on acting over music in recent years.
