TGL Round-Up: Game of Thrones Pirated A Billion Times, George Clooney Movie Earns Mixed Reviews, Lady Gaga Taking a Break

Game of Thrones broke ratings records for HBO in its latest season, but it paled in comparison to the amount of people watching the show illegally.

With its seventh season plagued by hackers, the popular fantasy show was pirated more than 1 billion times, according to anti-piracy firm Muso.

“Game of Thrones has become one of the biggest global entertainment phenomena of today and activity across piracy networks has been totally unprecedented,” said MUSO CEO Andy Chatterley in a statement. “In addition to the scale of piracy when it comes to popular shows, these numbers demonstrate that unlicensed streaming can be a far more significant type of piracy than torrent downloads.”

Two episodes of Game of Thrones were leaked online before airing, which may contribute to the high numbers of piracy.

George Clooney’s latest directional effort,  Suburbicon, has earned mixed reviews.

Suburbicon is described as being about a deceptively peaceful community hides a violent underbelly and stars Julianne Moore, Matt Damon and Oscar Isaac.

It currently holds a rotten 59% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lady Gaga will be “taking a rest” for a little while, the pop star announced at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday.

“I’m going to take a rest. I don’t know how long,” Gaga said at a press conference for her upcoming Netflix doc “Gaga: Five Foot Two” when asked what the next steps in her career might look like.

Gaga has been focused on acting over music in recent years.

  1. I’m surprised people would pirate a show that has episodes online that haven’t even aired yet. I, for one, am shocked people wouldn’t wait!

    • What exactly are HBO expecting?? Y’all should release the episode on HBO Online as soon as it leaks. Makes more sense to me than letting people pirate online for free.

    • Clooney’s next film should be “The Surrogate Talks”. Yep, let’s hear it for the same woman the De Niros hired to produce “their” child because she produced Amal’s twins. If you wanted to throw up reading Amal’s comments about her “difficult birth”, you’ll enjoy this movie. Since she was never pregnant, the only difficulty Amal had was getting the twins smuggled into England on dodgy papers.

  2. The reviews are saying Suburbicon isn’t good, but it’s not bad either. The Coens wrote the script, so I’m assuming it was awesome before Clooney got his hands on it. Apparently there’s a bad “race” subplot that doesn’t sound like anything the Coens would write, but definitely something Clooney and his cronies would be involved it.

  3. HBO execs joke about piracy as if they’re proud to have the most pirated show. Let me be the first to congratulate them on losing money.

  4. These “breaks” are never really breaks. Taylor Swift, Madonna, Beyonce yada yada. It’s just their PR people realising that the public is done with them. They go away for a hot second and then come back to annoy us.
