TGL Round-Up: Vikings Renewed, Star Wars Pushed Back, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Son Arrested
Disney and Lucasfilm have pushed the release date of “Star Wars: Episode IX” from May 24, 2019 to Dec. 20, 2019.
The announcement comes shortly after the news broke that J.J. Abrams would replace Colin Trevorrow as the director.
Variety reported that Disney had already been looking to push production from February to June and that the release date would likely move even after how quickly the studio found a replacement director.
Disney has replaced the film on the release schedule with the live-action film “Aladdin” directed by Guy Ritchie, which will now open on May 24.
Vikings has been renewed for a sixth series by History.
Series regular Katheryn Winnick will direct one of Season 6’s episodes, marking her directorial debut. Production on Season 6 begins this fall in Ireland.
Vikings series 5 premieres in November.
