Short and sweet today.
This A list writer adamantly refuses to work with HBO over their treatment of him on his last television show and when pitching new projects, won’t even entertain the idea of meeting with any of their executives.
So, tell me, Gossipers:
Who is our mad writer?
Judd Apatow or someone like that? Don’t really know many writers obviously LOL

Aaron Sorkin. He deserved to be treated like shit after creating The Newsroom.

Darn liberal garbage!!!

Nowhere near the level of his other work, but still a decent quality show. People were expecting the new West World and received West World set in a newsroom. Sorkin is a great writer, but limited by his political views and stock characters.

I really didn’t like Studio 60 on Sunset Strip either. It had a really interesting premise, but it was just badly executed…

Gotta be Daniel Knauf after the Carnival show.

Underrated show. Ryan Murphy before Ryan Murphy was relevant.

A list writers? In Hollywood?

Seriously. Whenever my boss needs a screenwriter to adapt an idea, I receive an email chain that includes Amy Schumer and Aaron Sorkin. That’s it. Always.

Schumer? That fat luvy? Blegh!

Those two are the pinnacle of the screenwriting profession, dear? Suddenly my optimism of a quality-driven, well-behaved Hollywood are fading.

Sorkin is great, especially with movies, but you’re definitely right about Schumer…

The Terrence Winter-Martin Scorsese working relationship after the failure of Vinyl. Can’t really blame HBO in that case.

Vinyl is the worst thing I’ve ever watched. Thought about cancelling SkyAtlantic after.

That’s what happens when you give complete trust to Scorsese. Just hours of cocaine, violence and sex.

I remember something circulating that Scorsese’s movie indulgences are reflected in his personal tastes.

First person I thought of because his True Blood departure was rumored to be juicy, but he has a show in the works with Holly Hunter on HBO called Here, Now. Love Alan Ball. He writes camp so well. I want him to write an updated version of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

Is True Blood an example of him writing camp well, dear? I found it to be absolutely abhorrent and I’m a fan of the camp obviously!

Mad makes me think this is Matthew Weiner, who worked on The Sopranos. Could he have bad feelings over HBO passing on Mad Men? A la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, “Big mistake. Huge!”

HBO also passed on Breaking Bad. The executive mismanagement between 2006 – 2015 was out of control. Fortunately Game of Thrones and now Westworld are saving their asses.

Plepler loves hiring big names, but has forgotten about the creative process. Valuing names over talent is the wrong attitude for a television series.

I really hope the Game of Thrones spin-offs are worthwhile…

With the exception of the minimum language and sex, Mad Men is a typical HBO show. It’s strange that they passed on it.

Weiner doesn’t need the sexists at HBO with their excessive violence and sexposition scenes.

HBO almost ruined Game of Thrones with sexposition. The first season is hard to rewatch
