The Story: Cameron Diaz, 45, Has Retired
Popular Guesses: Keira Knightley / Sandra Bullock / Cameron Diaz
It took almost three years after I posted this for the story to finally be confirmed, but Cameron Diaz quietly retired from acting in 2014 after the release of the box office flop, Annie.
I was told by a very reliable source that Diaz was receiving scripts and offers on a regular basis in late 2015, but was turning them down, citing no interest. At no point did Diaz officially tell anyone that she was retired and, despite not accepting any offers, has still retained an agent (Nick Styne at CAA) and a manager (Rick Yorn at the Firm) for the past four years.
Diaz’s close friend and The Sweetest Thing co-star Selma Blair confirmed last week that the Something About Mary star has officially quit the industry, however. Speaking at the Oscar’s Vanity Fair pre-party in LA, Blair said: ‘I had lunch with Cameron the other day, we were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting, she’s like “I’m done”.
Diaz married Benji Madden in early 2015.
